We want you to feel supported

We are here to help you feel secure and cared for, within a community committed to your well-being.

What does support look like at Settlers Lifestyle Village?

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and that people need different kinds of support to thrive. In order to meet these varying needs, we offer a wide range of support services.

How we support

Support with everyday living

There are times when small daily chores add up to become a burden. This is especially true if you don’t feel well, or are dealing with a stressful event in your life. Being able to access help when you need it can be a great relief. So what kind of support do you have access to in our village? Quite a lot. Our staff can assist you with pretty much everything you need on a day-to-day basis.

Support with house keeping

Residents can easily request regular or one-time cleanings. These can easily be tailored to your personal requirements. We have our own housekeeping team on-site. As we get older, housekeeping routines can be harder to keep up with, so knowing there is help on site is a relief. People who need temporary help due to illness or accidents love this service.

Support with maintenance

A full-time Handyman is on site to manage simple maintenance requests from residents. It’s a relief to know someone will be around soon to take care of these chores.

Support with meals

With a restaurant and cafe on site, residents have access to great value, nutritious meals prepared by an experienced chef. Our onsite cafe also offers delicious homemade cabinet food.

Support with transport

We have a shopping bus which goes to Albany mall twice a week. Our community has a resident-led transportation service if you need to attend a medical appointment.  They also arrange day trips for special outings, including mystery trips.

Support with physical fitness

Vitality is strongly associated with happiness and well-being. Because we know how important it is to feel vibrant, we offer a variety of activities. Our facilities include a gym, heated pool, petanque, and bowls. We also have resident-led groups like darts, tai chi, ‘walk n talk’ and table tennis.

Support for men

Our village has a strong culture of camaraderie. We have a purpose built bloke’s shed which attracts a number of highly gifted residents who enjoy building, crafting and tinkering.

Our village is a member of the Menz Shed New Zealand, which is a registered charity that exists to encourage, support and provide good information to those interested and passionate about Menz Shed in New Zealand. Our shed is run under their guidelines. But of course, the shed isn’t just for men, and women are most welcome to use this facility.

Our village has a unique way to check in with each other and welcome new members via a resident-led well-being group.

There is even a get-together for men, they bring us together for a meeting once a month. No one is isolated . . . You live longer if you aren’t

- Precious

Support for women

The bond of ‘sisterhood’ is an important and special one shared by many women throughout life. The bond transcends genetics, culture, and age and connects women in a way that cannot be explained. Our village maintains such a bond.

Checking in with each other, taking strolls together, sharing coffee or a glass of wine, and pursuing common interests are all ways that women support one another here. Of course, women love the convenience of an onsite hair salon, which is open to men as well!

We also host a Ladies Happy Hour. As our once-a-month sessions are women-only, they tend to be quieter and more peaceful than our usual happy hours. This informal gathering draws around 50 women at any given time, making it a great place to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

Support for extended family

Our community is designed to make it easy to entertain extended family, and to have grandchildren come and stay. There is a heated pool, BBQ patio and outdoor area, restaurant and café. This is a private function room that is available to residents for free.

Ours is a caring community

As a community, we understand that well-being doesn’t just mean addressing physical needs – it’s about creating an environment that fosters a culture of kindness, compassion, and understanding.

A thriving community is one where residents actively assist each other, lending a helping hand whenever needed. Whether it’s a shoulder to cry on during tough times or simply sharing resources to help improve someone’s quality of life, the beauty of residents supporting each other creates a sense of closeness and belonging that is unparalleled.

We take pride in being a vibrant and inclusive community where everyone feels welcome and valued.

Here’s how some residents describe their supportive community:

Well-being support
There is a well-being group here. You can say ‘I’m lonely’, or someone could point to a person and say – ‘that person needs help’ and they will take you out for coffee.

- Barbara

Well-being support
If your husband has dementia you say ‘I can’t cope with my husband all the time’, and people take him out for an hour. And of course, you’ve got the nurse. There is a lot of care here – a lot of caring people.

- Shirley

Well-being support
Most people are perceptive and very caring. This is a happy village and it’s a homely village. It’s not clinical, it’s a home.

- John

Helping hands
When I came back from the hospital two wonderful people in the village said – ‘Mary, we’re going to do your shopping for you, and they still do my shopping. I make a list and ring them when they’re going, and they get what I need.

- Mary

A sense of empathy and understanding
There is a lot of care here – a lot of caring people. If someone gets Covid everyone cares and drops things off to people. It’s residents in the well-being group. They’ll drive you to the hospital for an appointment which is a huge thing for me because there are a lot of people who can’t drive …
